Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr has signed a new male dancer to the Corps de Ballet for the 2016-2017 Season: Alexander Castillo.
A native of Bayside, Queens, Castillo joins PBT from Los Angeles Ballet, where he danced for six years and advanced to a soloist position. He received his training with Ballet Academy East, The School of American Ballet and in summer intensives at Boston Ballet School, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and The School of American Ballet.

Fittingly, the milestone intersects with the 20th anniversary season of the man who created it: PBT Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr.
When Orr arrived in Pittsburgh in 1997 to take the helm of PBT, a new “Nutcracker” was on his mind. He’d just relocated from New York City’s American Ballet Theatre and was experiencing the city’s traditions and history through fresh eyes.
Over the course of his career – and his life – Giselle has been a touchstone of sorts for Principal Dancer Christopher Budzynski.
It was one of two top ballets he revered as a youngster. It was the first ballet he performed as a professional. It was the first time he performed a pas de deux with his wife, fellow Principal Dancer Alexandra Kochis.

Three days before Halloween, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre opens its 47th season with a story of haunting beauty: “Giselle” with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Orchestra, onstage Oct. 28-30, at the Benedum Center.
Victoria Watford, of Cleveland, Ohio, joins the company from the PBT School Graduate Program, where she has trained since 2014. Prior to PBT, Watford trained with the Cleveland School of Dance for more than 10 years and performed with Cleveland Youth Ballet Company in “Diamonds,” “Don Quixote,” “The Nutcracker” and other works.
Starting with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday and ending with a full day of open house festivities on Sunday, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre welcomed over 900 people into its newly expanded studios for the Grand Opening of the new Byham Center for Dance.
