Joshua Malavé

Joshua Malavé is a composer from Montdale, a small town in the woods of northeastern Pennsylvania. He works as a dance accompanist, a pianist and cellist giving concerts of chamber music, a freelance pianist playing entertainment music, and as a piano and composition teacher. His compositions can be heard around Pittsburgh at house parties, chamber music performances, and orchestra concerts.

Recent performances of new works include an all electronic piece “Opulence” that was choreographed for VoxNovus’s Fifteen-minutes-of-fame in NewYork City and at Slippery Rock University for their 60×60 dance project, a dance for orchestra premiered by the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, a sonata for piano four hands premiered by Faye W. D’Ippolito and Edith M. Humphrey, and songs for voice and piano premiered by baritone Andrew John Barrett.

Josh also serves as the pianist for project SERIO, a new Pittsburgh based group dedicated to performing opera which will have its first performance of Cosi Fan Tutte in May of 2024. Before moving to Pittsburgh in 2022, he worked as an accompanist for the Elise Flagg Academy of Dance (for whom he wrote his ballet The Crane) and the Northern Illinois University theater and dance department.
