Student Matinees for the 2024-25 Season

At PBT’s student matinees students experience a magical theatrical world with lavish sets, colorful costumes, dramatic lighting and the artistry and athleticism of PBT’s professional dancers. Engage your students in the arts with thrilling ballet and breathtaking fantasy!

  • Schools with 50 – 100% free and reduced lunch student population: $7.00 per person
  • Schools with 0 – 49% free and reduced lunch student population: $14.50 per person
  • Home school and other groups: $14.50 per person

Educator Workshops

Join fellow educators at PBT to dive into the history and context of the ballet, explore fun and educational ways to incorporate ballet themes into your classroom, and get a behind the scenes look at the production. Educators who attend the workshop may be eligible for transportation funding for the matinee.

The Nutcracker Student Matinee

 Friday, December 6, 2024, 11 a.m.

The Magical Holiday Tradition! The dazzling world of The Nutcracker returns to the Benedum Center this December. Set in turn-of-the-century Pittsburgh, The Nutcracker sweeps audiences into a thrilling journey with Marie and the Nutcracker Prince as they travel through sparkling snow into the Land of Enchantment. Experience spectacular dance at its finest, colorful characters, gorgeous costumes, stunning scenery and the iconic Tchaikovsky score as you are whisked into the most delightful time of the year.

Romeo and Juliet with the PBT Orchestra

Friday, February 14, 2025, 11 a.m. 

The world’s most famous love story is brought to life by PBT in the emotional and timeless saga of Romeo and Juliet. Jean-Christophe Maillot’s version of the ballet focuses on the youthfulness of the characters, and portrays the tragedy from the perspective of the priest, whose good intentions ultimately lead to the demise of the two young, star-crossed lovers. Sergei Prokofiev’s unforgettable music, played by the PBT Orchestra, underscores the beauty and passion of this beloved ballet. Join us for a moving performance full of romance that will reach your heart and soul.
