Program Notes
Raymonda is a full-length story ballet set in the 12th century; the title character is a young countess waiting for her lover to return from the Crusades. This excerpt comes from the third act and is considered one of Petipa’s masterpieces, a fabulous and grand display of the energy and power of his choreography.
