Program Notes
The music for this ballet was originally intended for the Black Swan Pas de Deux in Act III of Swan Lake, but it wasn’t used in the ballet. George Balanchine decided to put it to use to create a display piece based on the music, highlighting the supreme techinical gifts of virtuoso performers.
