New! – Family Pre-Ballet

Join us for a new specialized workshop for dancers ages 2-3! This is a limited-session workshop experience as we continue to explore options for our youngest dancers to return to the studio. Each week, dancers will attend class accompanied by an adult to participate in a taste of in-person ballet instruction. Dancers and families explore the structure and joy of ballet through music, movement and creativity. Family Pre-Ballet will take place on Saturdays from 8:45-9:15 a.m.
*Please note that all adults must show proof of vaccination upon entry to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Studios. All dancers and adults must wear masks at all times.

Vampirina Ballerina
October 3, 2021
Inspired by the book Vampirina Ballerina by Anne Marie Pace. Dancers will participate in a short ballet class, hear the story Vampirina Ballerina, learn a spooky dance and make a craft.
The Nutcracker
December 5, 2021
Dancers will participate in a short ballet class, hear the story of The Nutcracker, act out some parts from the ballet, meet a few characters from the ballet and make a craft.
My Sweetheart and Me
February 6, 2022
Dancers may bring a special Grown Up to class and share a ballet class and learn a dance together.
Ballet with Ballerinas
March 6, 2022
Dancers will the opportunity to take class alongside some Pre-professional dancers. Students will learn a special dance with the ballerinas, have a photo opportunity and create a craft.
My Doll and Me
April 3, 2022
Dancers can choose their favorite doll to bring to ballet class. There will be a special dance that they will demonstrate with their doll in addition to making a craft.
Swan Lake
May 1, 2022
Students will participate in a short ballet class, learn a modified version of the Four Little Swans and make a feathery craft.

Register for all 4 workshops and get 2 tickets to PBT Swan Lake!
These themed workshops give young dancers that are developing their foundational ballet skills a chance to let their artistry blossom. In the two-hour time frame they will get a technique class and they will also learn a variation that correlates with the ballet that is the theme of the day. Getting a taste of these 4 balletic styles – From classical to comical, Spanish and romantic – will ignite the young dancers’ continued love of ballet!
The Sleeping Beauty
Sunday, Feb. 6
Join PBT School faculty in a ballet class followed by learning the Princess Fluorine or Bluebird Variation from Act III of The Sleeping Beauty. The premiere performance of The Sleeping Beauty took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on January 15, 1890. The work has become one of the classical repertoire’s most famous ballets.
Music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Choreography by Marius Petipa.
Coppélia
Sunday, Mar. 6
Join PBT School faculty in a ballet class followed by learning the Swanhilda Variation or doll dances from this comic ballet. Coppélia is based on a story by E. T. A. Hoffmann Coppélia met with immediate success on its completion in 1870 and has been held a charming favorite by ballet lovers both young and old.

Don Quixote
Sunday, Apr. 3
Join PBT School faculty in a ballet class followed by learning the Cupid Variation From Don Quixote Act II Dream Scene.
The ballet Don Quixote is based on segments of the classic novel, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes Saavreda. The first ballet based on the novel appeared in 1740, and several more were produced over the next century

Swan Lake
Sunday, May 1
Join PBT School faculty in a ballet class followed by learning Swan Lake’s famous Danse des petits cygnets. Translated from French, it means “Dance of the Little Swans”, also known as “Dance of the cygnets”. It is very challenging because all dancers must look the same.
