Spring Mix with the PBT Orchestra

Choreography: George Balanchine, Jae Man Joo, Yoshiaki Nakano, Helen Pickett | Music: P.I. Tchaikovsky, Philip Glass, Thomas Montgomery Newman and Max Bruch.

Our spring mixed repertory program will be fresh as a daisy, featuring pieces selected by Artistic Director Adam W. McKinney, including the commissioned world premiere of When Time Stands Still by Pittsburgh-based choreographer and Princess Grace Award Recipient Jae Man Joo, and the world premiere of Violin Pas de Deux by PBT Principal Artist and Choreographer-in-Residence Yoshiaki Nakano. Also lighting up the Benedum stage will be the vibrant colors and high energy of Helen Pickett’s sparkling Petal and the exhilarating piece George Balanchine declared “everything I know about classical ballet in thirteen minutes,” his exuberant and joyous Allegro Brillante.

The program begins with a special opportunity to watch the last few minutes of company class; then we’ll be joined by Jae Man Joo, choreographer of When Time Stands Still, for a preview of his world premiere work. Joo is an international choreographer, a 2009 Princess Grace Choreographer Award winner, a former Associate Artistic Director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and a former principal dancer at Ballet Hispanico and Complexions. He is currently an assistant ballet professor at Point Park University.

 

For all of these programs we’ll be in the Orchestra level (first floor) of the theater; no registration needed.
